Line 1 Lane Seminary August 12th 1833
Line 2 To The Faculty of Lane Seminary
Line 3 We, having been appoint
Line 4 ed a Committee by the school to represent to you their
Line 5 wishes respecting a change of diet, beg leave to submit
Line 6 the following to your consideration. The students were
Line 7 unanimously of opinion that a change of fare was
Line 8 necessary for the promotions of health and success in
Line 9 their studies, they, therefore in order not to be precipitated
Line 10 or unadvised in this matter, appointed a committee of
Line 11 eight to recommend to the school such change as would
Line 12 be proper and desirable. The Committee after due de-
Line 13 liberation unanimously agreed to recommend the fol-
Line 14 lowing articles which were unanimously adopted by
Line 15 the School; viz for Breakfast and dinner & Supper
Line 16 in the following order.
Line 17 Breakfast, Wheat bread, warm hash and butter or
Line 18 cold boiled, or fried ham baked potatoes & butter.
Line 19 Dinner, wheat bread, and corn bread occasionally, corned
Line 20 beef, beef steak, or bacon, or mutton, with appropriate
Line 21 vegetables.
Line 22 Supper, corn bread and corn mush or rice together with
Line 23 wheat bread and milk with butter or molasses.
Line 24 Besides, baked apples, bread pudding, or rice pudding,
Line 25 or apple dumplings and stewed apples were recommend-
Line 26 ed as a variety.
Line 27 We wish the articles specified to be of a good quality
