Line 1 Cincinnati February 1834
Line 2 Dear Sir
Line 3 Soon after my return to this city from my eastern
Line 4 tour, Mr. Groesbeck requested me to renew this note I
Line 5 loaned through you to the Seminary in June last; I did
Line 6 so adding the interest that had already accumulated
Line 7 making the sum now not far from $350._ This
Line 8 note has again gone into Bank and will be due
Line 9 about the first of March and must be taken
Line 10 up on again renewed_ I expect to leave here in
Line 11 the spring for New York and shall be absent
Line 12 several months, consequently it will be extremely in-
Line 13 convenient for me to attend to the [renewal] of it this
Line 14 of this [note] and as it was only loaned, and that
Line 15 too very reluctantly, and as I have given to that
Line 16 institution all that I can at present afford
Line 17 or feel it my duty to do, I should be very
Line 18 glad that some arrangements could be made
Line 19 could be made to take it up and relieve
Line 20 me from any further trouble with it_ There
Line 21 are claims of a [unclear] character continually upon
Line 22 me which [require] all the aid that I can convenient
Line 23 ly give [otherwise] I would give the amount out & out
(Lane_042)
Line 1 and be done with it__
Line 2 I am told that those persons of this
Line 3 city who subscribed to the Seminary fund,
Line 4 have been very backward in making their
Line 5 payments? if this be the case I would
Line 6 I would hand the subscription paper
Line 7 into the hands of some lawyer and allow
Line 8 [them] 5 or 10 per [unclear] for collecting – by
Line 9 this means you will get the amt. without
Line 10 it probably never will you get a cent.
Line 11 Messrs. Starr [Mchyter] I would recommend.
Line 12 It would be teaching a good lesson and
Line 13 learn people not to deceive by
Line 14 putting their names to paper without
Line 15 the intention of paying and thereby
Line 16 deceiving and doing an injury instead of
Line 17 a benefit
Line 18 Yours Affectionately
