This story from The Strand Magazine, published in January 1895. This story details the adventure of a poor, but gallant Tramp who happens upon two lost young women during a rainstorm. He helps them and falls in love with one of the women only to discover that she is married. Regardless of this heartbreak, the Tramp remains friends with the women and travels with them. This piece highlights the ideals of Victorian masculinity and manliness through the Tramp. He transgresses boundaries of class because of his masculine performance and style of dress.
