Irving Epstein, born August 8, 1945 is an American scientist working at Brandeis University. He was the organizer of the first Gordon Research Conference in 1981 and worked with Anatol Zhabotinsky in the 1990s. His team was: "the first to design a new chemical oscillator." Presently: "Current areas of focus in the Epstein group include elucidating the role of cross-diffusion in pattern formation in chemical, biological and social systems, and building arrays of coupled chemical oscillators that can generate chemomechanical transduction or perform simple computational functions." His website can be found here.
